Getting Started with Cadence Automations

Overview

Cadence automations allow Left Main to automatically enroll records into Cadence Libraries, transition records between libraries, and stop active cadences based on configurable business events.

This guide will help you prepare your organization, enable your first automation, and validate your setup before rolling it out to your users.

Before You Begin

Before enabling Cadence automations, verify the following:

  • You have System Administrator (or equivalent) permissions.

  • Your Cadence Libraries have already been created and are Active.

  • You've identified any existing Salesforce Flows that currently enroll, transition, or stop Cadences.

Things to Keep in Mind

Cadence automations are disabled by default. You can enable each automation independently, allowing you to roll them out at your own pace.

Step 1: Add ‘Completed’ to Cadence object Stopped Reason field.

Note: This step only applies for existing customers prior to August 2026. New users can proceed to Step 2.

Go to gear icon and click on Setup.

Click on Object Manager. In the quick find box, type in and click Cadence.

Click on Field & Relationships. In the quick find box, type in and click Stopped Reason.

Scroll down to the Values section. Click New.

Type in Completed and click Save. Reorder if preferred.

Step 2: Review Existing Automation

Before enabling any Cadence automation, determine whether your organization already uses Salesforce Flows to automate Cadence enrollment or management.

If similar Flows already exist, decide whether to:

  • Continue using your existing Salesforce Flows, or

  • Replace them with the native Cadence automations.

Running both for the same process may result in duplicate automation or unexpected behavior.

Best Practice

If you're a new Left Main customer without existing Salesforce Flows, we recommend using Cadence automations as your primary solution.

Step 3: Open Cadence Setup

Navigate to:

Cadence App Configuration → Cadence Setup

Cadence Setup contains the organization-wide automation settings for:

  • Leads

  • Opportunities

  • Contacts

  • Transactions

  • Interested Buyers

Each object's automations can be enabled and configured independently.

Step 4: Enable Your First Automation

Toggle the Configure Automations to Active.

The first time you activate an automation, Left Main automatically performs a Cadence Automation Readiness Check.

This report scans your Salesforce organization for active Flows that may overlap with the automation you're enabling.

The report includes:

  • Flow name

  • Flow description

  • API name

  • Direct link to open the Flow in Salesforce Setup

You can also:

  • Download the complete report

  • Email the report for future reference or to share with your team

Review the report carefully before activating the automation. If you would like to proceed, click I understand.

Select the object you'd like to automate and enable the desired automation.

Step 5: Test Your Automation

Before enabling Cadence automations for your entire organization, test your configuration using sample records.

We recommend verifying that:

  • Records are enrolled in the correct Cadence Library.

  • Routing rules behave as expected.

  • Cadence transitions occur at the appropriate time.

  • Stop rules trigger correctly.

  • Existing Salesforce Flows are not duplicating the automation.

Once testing is complete, you can confidently enable additional automations.

Things to Keep in Mind
  • Cadence automations can be enabled one automation at a time.

  • The Automation Readiness Check runs the first time you enable each automation.

  • Existing Salesforce Flows that perform the same function should be reviewed before enabling native automations.

  • Test automations in a sandbox or with sample records before deploying them broadly.

  • Chained Cadence Libraries must remain Active. If a chained library is archived, deleted, or set to Draft, the automatic handoff will not occur.

Pro Tip 🧠

Start with a single object—such as Leads—before enabling automations for the rest of your organization. Validating one workflow first makes it easier to identify overlapping Salesforce Flows, confirm your routing logic, and ensure a smooth rollout before expanding to additional automation scenarios.
