Cadence Libraries Frequently Asked Questions

Last Updated: April 29, 2026

General

Q: Do I have to migrate to Cadence Libraries right away? No. The old folder-based system and Cadence Libraries coexist during the transition period. You can migrate at your own pace. Existing folder-based Cadences on records continue running uninterrupted regardless of where you are in the migration process.

Q: Can my team use both the old folder system and Cadence Libraries at the same time? Yes. During migration, the Create Cadence modal includes a toggle that lets users switch between Library mode (new) and Folder mode (legacy). This allows your team to continue using the old system while you migrate. Once you complete the full cutover in Cadences Setup, the folder mode toggle is hidden and your team works exclusively in libraries.

Q: What happens to cadences already running on records when I activate Cadence Libraries? Nothing. Existing folder-based cadences on records are not affected by activating Cadence Libraries. They continue running exactly as they were. Only new cadences created after activation will use the library system — and only if the user selects a library in the Create Cadence modal.

Q: Can I go back to the old folder system after activating Cadence Libraries? During the transition period, yes — the folder/library toggle in the Create Cadence modal lets users switch between the two. However, once you enable the final migration completion setting in Cadences Setup (the step that hides all legacy folder UI), that action is irreversible via the UI. Reverting after that point requires a Left Main support case.

Building Libraries

Q: Why can't I see a library in the cadence picker when creating a cadence on a record? There are two common reasons:

  • The library is still in Draft status. Only Active libraries appear in the cadence picker. Go to the library and click Change Status to set it to Active.

  • The library's Object type doesn't match the record you're working on. The cadence picker filters libraries by the record's object type — a Lead library won't appear on an Opportunity record.

Q: If I edit a template that's used in multiple libraries, does it change everywhere? Yes. Templates are shared objects — editing a template updates it across every library it belongs to. The Builder will display a warning before you save any edits to remind you of this. If you want to make a change that only affects one library, clone the template first and edit the copy.

Q: What happens to a library's cadences on records if I delete the library? Deleting a library sets the Library lookup on associated cadences to null. The cadences themselves are not deleted and continue running — they just revert to operating without a library reference. Existing scheduled records (SMS, email, tasks, direct mail) are not affected.

Q: What does "Archived" status mean? Is it different from Draft? Yes. Draft means the library is still being built and is not available for use. Archived means the library has been retired — it is also unavailable for new cadence creation, but signals intentional retirement rather than a work-in-progress state.

Q: Can I add the same template to more than one library? Yes. Templates are reusable across libraries. Use the + Add Existing Template button in the Builder to pull any existing template into any library. Keep in mind that edits to that template will affect all libraries it belongs to.

Migration

Q: What does the migration wizard actually do? Does it delete my old folders? The migration wizard creates a new Cadence Library from the folders you select — it does not delete or modify the original folders. Sequences that are imported are linked to the new library, but the source folders remain intact.

Q: What does "unlinked sequences" mean in the context of Add Existing Folder? When you use + Add Existing Folder, only sequences that are not already linked to another library are imported. This prevents the same sequence from appearing in multiple libraries unintentionally and keeps your library contents clean.

Q: I have a lot of folders. Do I have to migrate them all at once? No. You can migrate folder by folder over time using either the migration wizard in Cadences Setup or the + Add Existing Folder button inside individual libraries. There is no deadline or hard cutover — you control the pace.

Flows and Automation

Q: Will my existing Flows break when I activate Cadence Libraries? No. Existing Flows that reference folder-based cadences continue to run during the transition period. They only need to be updated when you're ready to have automated enrollment use the new library system — or when you complete the full cutover and hide the legacy folder UI.

Q: Do I have to update all my Flows before completing the migration cutover? Yes — we recommend updating all relevant Flows before enabling the final migration completion toggle. Once legacy folder UI is hidden, any Flow still referencing folder-based cadence assignment may not behave as expected.

Bulk Cadences

Q: Can I apply a Cadence Library to multiple records at once? Yes. From a Lead or Opportunity list view, select multiple records and click the Bulk Add Cadence action. Choose the Cadence Library to apply and it will be enrolled across all selected records simultaneously.

Q: What happens if a record in a bulk Cadence has an invalid or missing address for Direct Mail? Address validation for Direct Mail in bulk operations uses default Salesforce address fields automatically — there is no per-record confirmation screen. Records where the address cannot be parsed are flagged separately for review. No Direct Mail step will be submitted for a record with an address parsing failure.

Direct Mail

Q: Why isn't my Direct Mail template showing a preview in the timeline? Direct Mail templates are hosted externally via PostcardMania, not stored in Salesforce like SMS, email, and task templates. At launch, timeline preview for Direct Mail steps may be limited. See the Known Issues document for current status.

Q: What status counts as "completed" for a Direct Mail step on the record timeline? "Order Submitted" maps to the green completed indicator on the record timeline for Direct Mail steps. This is different from SMS, email, and task steps, which use their own completion signals.
