How to Troubleshoot a Failed Flow
Problem
You saved a change to a record, such as changing a Stage or updating a field, and a red error banner told you to contact your Salesforce administrator. Or you received an email saying a flow failed.
The banner rarely explains what went wrong. Salesforce keeps a detailed record of each failure that shows exactly where the flow stopped and why.
Watch: How To: Troubleshoot Failed Flows
Possible Causes
A flow fails when one of its steps can’t finish. Common reasons include:
A validation rule blocks the record the flow is trying to create or update.
A lookup filter doesn’t allow the value the flow is trying to set.
The flow updates a different record than the one you edited. For example, a flow that starts on a Lead may update an Opportunity during conversion, and that Opportunity fails a rule.
Solution
Click the gear icon, then click Setup.
In the Quick Find box, type Failed and click Paused and Failed Flow Interviews.
The page opens to the Paused list by default. Switch the list view to Failed Flow Interviews.
Pro Tip: Pin the Failed Flow Interviews list view so it opens first next time.Find the flow that failed. Use the flow name and the time of the failure to match it to your error.
Click the flow interview to open it. Salesforce shows the path the flow took and highlights the step where it failed.
Read the error details on the failed step. Note:
The error type, such as a validation error or a field filter validation exception.
The object that started the flow, such as Lead.
The record the flow was trying to update, such as Opportunity.
Use those details to find the cause. For example, if the flow failed while updating an Opportunity with a validation error, check the Opportunity’s validation rules for the one that blocked the update.
